The new Albert tire from Schwalbe features a radial construction. Albert is a versatile flagship in the radial line, alongside Magic Mary, and is an enduro-oriented all-rounder that can be used on both the front and rear.
Regular tires have a bias construction where the carcass (skeleton) fibers cross at a 45° angle, but Schwalbe's radial construction greatly widens that angle, arranging them almost vertically. This is the same concept as car tires.
Even with the same air pressure, the contact patch is about 30% larger, and the carcass is more compliant with irregularities in the ground. Grip, damping, and control are all elevated to the next level.
The tread pattern has a denser arrangement with tighter knob spacing than the Magic Mary. The center knobs are arranged in a 2-3-2 rhythm, designed to reduce rolling resistance while providing braking and traction. The shoulder knobs, though subtle, also have a firm edge, providing grip in corners. This tire is not about "all-out grip" like the Magic Mary, but rather a balance between grip and speed.
Radial tires have a slightly unique ride feel. They are soft and feel like they adhere to the ground. You might find them lacking support at your usual air pressure, so start with a slightly higher pressure and experiment to find your preference.
