Surly HURDY GURDY

SURLY's Hurdy Gurdy is a chain tensioner designed for horizontal, semi-horizontal dropouts with open fronts, and it holds the wheel in place against the troublesome pedaling forces that try to pull it forward. The Hurdy Gurdy can be used with Surly's Cross-Check dropouts and many open-front 10mm axle compatible dropouts. The shaft can be used with 9.5mm and 10mm solid, quick release, and 6mm bolt-on axles (Surly Ultra New Hub). Stainless steel is used for the tensioner body and screws for appropriate strength and corrosion resistance during installation, but also simply because Surly staff like shiny things. The Hurdy Gurdy allows for quick and easy wheel alignment and chain tension adjustment without the need for tools (after loosening the axle nuts or bolts, of course).
