The Gatewood Cape is a revolutionary item that functions as a rain jacket, backpack cover, and tent,
all while performing each role effectively.
Rain Gear = Gatewood Cape
It functions like a lightweight silnylon wind jacket, repelling rain and helping to maintain body temperature.
With seam-sealed lining, it can be used as a rain jacket and short-length rain gear.
While it certainly can't compete with highly breathable waterproof jackets for walking in forested areas or when the weather is unpredictable,
it will often serve its purpose more than adequately for walking through light rain.
By unzipping the center zipper or adjusting how you wear the hood, it's surprisingly comfortable and doesn't trap much humidity.
Tent = Gatewood Cape
The Gatewood Cape becomes a floorless shelter.
Using trekking poles or fallen logs as supports and extending the guylines, it can achieve a maximum ceiling height of 125cm,
or be used in windproof mode at 115cm by staking the loops directly to the ground.
The exquisite space is just enough so that you don't need to use a bivy sack even when used in the rain,
and it's resistant to wind and sheds rain widely, so despite its tarp-like weight of 285g,
I believe its greatest strength is the sense of security it provides in any weather.
Lightweight at 285g
285g (main body weight excluding guylines) is equivalent to the weight of a standard rain jacket.
If you were to simply add the weight of conventional tents and backpack covers to this, it would be around 1.5kg,
but this item can offset that weight all at once.
It provides an opportunity to dramatically lighten your base weight.
Attractive Expandability
For summer use, by combining it with the separately sold "security net tent," it can be used as a mosquito net
or a double-wall tent with a floor.
It's amazing that this can be achieved with a total weight of about 510g. Opening the doors on both sides should provide a coolness
that is free from the stuffiness of summer.
