We asked Nitto, a bicycle parts manufacturer that Japan is proud of, to produce the GS-001.
To ensure it suits any chromoly bike and is easy to use for custom builds, we have adopted standard specifications for all parts, avoiding special standards.
The stem's faceplate is an open type, making handle replacement easier.
The handle is clamped by four 4mm bolts, providing high clamping force. This prevents slippage even with cyclocross bikes that experience a lot of handlebar vibration, or with wide commuter handlebars, ensuring the handle is securely fixed.
It can also be attached to handlebars with a looped clamp section, such as Jones Bikes' H-loop bar.
When the GS-001 stem is installed facing downwards, for a standard chromoly road bike, the stem will be horizontal with the ground.
It can be installed without compromising the look of horizontal-shaped road bikes, where appearance from the side is important.
When installed facing upwards, the handle clamp section moves significantly upwards.
This provides ample space for luggage, making it highly compatible with baskets and racks, and greatly facilitating loading and unloading.
When combined with Grumpy's original wide drop handlebar GH-001, the GS-001 stem makes it easier to attach WALD's 37 or 137 baskets.
The upward angle allows the entire handlebar section to be moved upwards.
This further increases the space in front of the handlebars.
Additionally, the GS-001 stem comes in short lengths of 70mm and 90mm.
When installed on a bicycle, the handlebar clamp section is positioned closer to the rider, preventing it from getting in the way when loading and unloading luggage.
Even with a WALD basket installed, you can use it without your fingers interfering with the basket.
It is also a convenient item when using hand shifters like Shimano's STI levers.
By using the GS-001 stem, the hand shifters can be positioned above the rim of the basket, allowing you to operate the shifters without interfering with the basket itself.
