The GS-001 was commissioned from Nitto, a bicycle parts manufacturer that Japan is proud of.
To suit any chromoly bike and be easy to use for custom builds, standard specifications are used for each part, without any special standards.
The stem's faceplate is an open type to make handlebar replacement easier.
The handlebar is clamped with four 4mm bolts, providing high clamping force. This prevents slippage even on cyclocross bikes with a lot of handlebar vibration or bikes with wide commuter handlebars, ensuring a secure grip on the handlebars.
It can also be installed on handlebars with a looped clamping area, such as Jones Bikes' H-loop bar.
When the GS-001 stem is installed facing downwards, it will be horizontal with the ground on a standard chromoly road bike.
It can be installed without compromising the appearance of horizontal road bikes, where side aesthetics are important.
When installed facing upwards, the handlebar clamp moves significantly higher.
This allows for more space for cargo, making it highly compatible with baskets and racks, and greatly simplifying loading and unloading cargo.
When combined with Grumpy's original wide drop handlebar GH-001, the GS-001 stem makes it easier to attach WALD 37 or 137 baskets.
Due to its upward angle, the entire handlebar area can be moved upwards.
This creates even more space in front of the handlebars.
Additionally, the GS-001 stem is set to shorter lengths of 70mm and 90mm.
When installed on a bicycle, the handlebar clamp is positioned closer to the rider, preventing it from getting in the way when loading or unloading cargo.
Even with a WALD basket installed, you can use it without your fingers interfering with the basket.
This product is also convenient when using hand shifters such as Shimano STI levers.
By using the GS-001 stem, the hand shifter can be moved above the edge of the basket, allowing for shifting without the shift lever interfering with the basket itself.
