This is a custom build introduction for Panasonic's sportif bike, the FSS9.

The FSS9 is a traditional sportiff bike packed with the wisdom of our predecessors, and it excels in long rides such as brevets and long-distance touring.

This bike was assembled using a variety of parts, including items brought in by the customer, vintage components, and new parts, all based on the frameset.

To maintain a classic aesthetic, we opted for silver-colored parts throughout the bike.

For the brake levers, we used TRP's RRL SR. These classic perforated levers contribute to weight reduction. The brake cables are routed inside the bar tape, keeping the handlebar area neat and tidy.

The bar tape is VIVA cotton bar tape. It develops a unique character with use, allowing you to enjoy its aging. For increased durability, you might consider applying shellac varnish.

The FSS9 frameset comes with optional headset, front rack, and full front and rear fenders.

The rack fits perfectly with the frame, giving it a great look!

For the saddle, we installed Brooks' long-standing classic, the B17 Special.

While new saddles are firm, they soften and conform to your body the more you ride them.

Once you find the perfect fit, you might not be able to use any other saddle! This leather saddle's comfort may be why its shape has remained unchanged for nearly 100 years.

The front and rear brakes are from the legendary brake manufacturer MAFAC. These are no longer available new and were brought in by the customer.

They boast excellent aesthetic appeal, provide strong braking power, and are truly great brakes.

The wheels also feature silver components.

We chose Velo Orange front and rear cassette hubs.

Velo Orange is one of the few brands that still offers silver components today. It's a must-consider brand if you're looking for classic parts.

For the rims, we opted for Velocity Atlas.

They have a very simple appearance, but their appeal lies in their robustness; they won't budge even when carrying heavy loads.

They are also a perfect match for a sportiff bike.

The tires are Panaracer GravelKing 700x35c. These are also a well-known and extremely popular standard tire.

While the manufacturer's specified tire clearance for the FSS9 is 700x32c, with this combination, there was enough clearance, so we installed a slightly oversized tire.

The FSS9 frame has eyelets located all over it for attaching racks and fenders.

This time, we used the rack eyelets to attach Kiley coin reflectors. This greatly improves nighttime visibility!

The drivetrain components are also unified in silver.

We installed a combination of Sugino Mighty Tour and Microshift derailleurs.

Bicycles with traditional specifications like cantilever brakes and quill stems are rare and valuable models these days.

This time, we assembled it using parts brought in by the customer, resulting in a wonderful bike that combines both new and old components.
