The KONA UNIT X is a very popular rigid chromoly MTB.

The head tube adopts a slightly thicker 44mm standard, making it compatible with current standard suspension forks.

The complete bike comes with a rigid fork, but if you want to enjoy off-road riding more later on, you can add a front suspension. If you want a lighter ride, a carbon fork would be a good option!

Let's check out the tires on the KONA UNIT X.

The tires are Maxxis REKON 29x2.6, which are tubeless-ready.

The rims are WTB ST I30, also tubeless-ready.

This makes for a very convenient parts set that allows for immediate tubeless conversion.

Even with 29x2.6 tires installed, there is still plenty of tire clearance at the front and rear.

If the rear dropouts are set to the rearmost position, even wider tires could likely be installed.

A key point regarding the tires that you should also pay attention to!

There are threaded holes on the seat stays and chain stays.

These can be used to attach full fenders, making it highly recommended for those who want to use the bike more practically.

There aren't many MTBs that can accommodate such large tires and are also designed for full fenders.

So, for practical riders, this is a significant advantage.

The front fork has three eyelets on each side for carrying luggage, and there is one eyelet each at the front and rear ends.

This will likely allow for the attachment of most accessories, whether for bikepacking style, full fenders, or a front rack!

The UNIT X is also designed to accommodate seatpost upgrades, including dropper seatposts.

There are cable guides on the downtube, allowing for neat cable routing when a dropper seatpost is installed.

The rear part of the frame also has eyelets. The design is mindful of allowing various accessories, such as a rear rack or fenders, to be attached here.

The biggest feature of the UNIT X is its sliding dropouts. While the complete bike comes with gears, it can be converted to a single-speed without a chain tensioner if you want a simpler ride.

You might think that single-speed means it's just harder on hills because there are no gears. However, as you enjoy cycling more, there comes a time when you want to remove unnecessary things and simplify.

At such a time, when you go single-speed, you might think, "Hmm, this might be good! It's surprisingly fast, moves well, and works great! Fewer breakdowns, lower costs, it's the best!"

I believe Kona continues to adopt this sliding dropout specification precisely because there are people who truly enjoy cycling in a simple way.
