Surly Ice Cream Truck with powder-coated frame and rims

The Surly Ice Cream Truck is a fat bike with some of the widest tires around.

It's safe to say it's probably the #1 bike for striking up conversations on the street!

We received a request to paint an Ice Cream Truck to make it even cooler!

The frame is a vibrant red, perfectly suiting this fun, ride-and-play-ready fat bike. A slightly flashy, mood-boosting color really suits it.

We also received an order to paint the rims!

The distinctive feature of fat bikes is their thick, perforated rims, but currently, they are almost exclusively available in black.

So, we painted those rims in a pale gray.

Highly durable powder coating is resistant to impacts and scratches. Beyond frames, it can be applied to various metal parts, such as fat bike rims and cranks.

The rims alone already look incredibly cool.

The black rim tape peeking through the characteristic holes of the fat bike rim, designed for weight reduction, creates a wonderful color scheme that highlights those details.

This time, we also received an order for tubeless, so there's no need for heavy inner tubes, which can be a drawback of fat bikes. The ride becomes incredibly light.

When combining the painted frame and rims, it looks fun even just visually.

It's become a pop and fun-looking bicycle that makes people want to strike up a conversation on the street.

While I've only talked about its appearance so far, I can't help but talk about the performance of a fat bike.

The tire width is 4.8 inches, which is about 12 cm.

This wide tire allows for lower air pressure, resulting in the often-mentioned soft and floating ride feel.

Beyond ride comfort, these tires perform in any environment, be it mountains, rocky terrain, sand, or heavy snow.

For me, the performance on rocky terrain is a fun aspect. In situations that feel more like climbing or flat ground than downhill,

the soft tires grip the ground's irregularities, allowing you to enjoy cross-country-style riding, much like with a Land Cruiser or Jimny.

It's fun to climb rocky areas and stairs using the super low gear.
