Leisurely lunch ride in Etajima
About 30 minutes by ferry from Ujina Port.
This time, I went on a light cycling trip to Etajima by road bike.
Just boarding a ferry instantly makes it feel like a holiday, it's so exciting.
I didn't check the timetable carefully, but it seems there are about two ferries an hour.
On this day, I took the 11:20 ferry.
After cycling about 13km along the coast from Kirikushi Port, we arrived at our destination for the day, "Mamegashima."
This is the classic Mamegashima udon. They also served me some tofu.
I also had all-you-can-drink soy milk, and it was all very delicious.
From Mamegashima, we ride towards Mitaka Port.
If we had just returned from Mitaka Port, the total distance would have been about 30km.
There are almost no hills, so it would be a perfect route for those not yet used to cycling, but it wasn't quite enough for us, so we decided to try climbing Mt. Hōdai.
We tried climbing from the west side of the island, which was a mistake.
Most of it is a brutal climb with a gradient of over 10%. The view is nice, but it's quite tough.
I recommend the route heading south from Mitaka Port instead.
This is the former gun battery site.
We explored it while learning various things from Takeshita, a painter who loves war ruins.
By the way, if you are considering going there:
The gun battery site is unpaved, so if you're wearing clipless shoes, dirt-friendly ones are recommended.
I've uploaded a YouTube video of this ride, so please check it out.
