Brighter and longer-lasting LEZYNE lights
LEYNE has renewed its lights, introducing new models after approximately four years.
What kind of lights are the new models?
While there are various updates compared to the old models, there are three major improvements:
1. Increased battery capacity
The new models feature significantly increased battery capacity by using a different type of battery. The brightest LITE DRIVE 1200+ has 3800mAh, and even the smallest KTV DRIVE PRO 300+ has 1400mAh. Compared to the previous models, the capacity has increased by 2 to 3 times.
2. Increased number of LEDs
Previously, a single large LED or two were used, illuminating only the center like a spotlight and leaving the surroundings dark. The new models, however, incorporate 5 to 8 small LEDs and a redesigned lens cut, allowing for bright illumination not only in the center but also over a wider area.
3. USB Type-C compatibility
This is a very welcome update, as most rechargeable devices now use USB Type-C. It's great to reduce the number of charging cables needed. Additionally, while there is a waterproof cap, the terminal itself is waterproof, so you can use it with peace of mind.
Other features include:
・Improved heat dissipation performance
The aluminum-machined body features heat sinks, improving heat dissipation. This also contributes to the distinctive look of the new lights. The higher the power, the more fins there are.
・Pass-through charging OK (dedicated battery pack recommended)
With a dedicated battery pack, which will be released soon, you can charge the light while it's on. While commercially available mobile batteries can also work, a dedicated battery pack is preferable.
・2-year warranty included
While the warranty isn't exclusive to the new models, it's reassuring to have it for a light that isn't cheap, just in case.

How much brightness do you need?
If you're unsure how much light output you need, here's my personal guideline for reference.
In brightly lit urban areas with streetlights, anything above 300 lumens should be sufficient.
For dark roads with sparse streetlights, 600 lumens or more are recommended, and for completely dark roads without streetlights, 800 lumens or more will provide peace of mind.
The faster you ride, the brighter light you'll need.
Also, if you're riding for long distances or durations, a high-power model with a larger battery capacity will provide a longer runtime and more reassurance.
