Drastically change the look of your bike with new wheels! The popular ALLROAD SL CARBON has arrived.
MAVIC's new gravel wheelset, the "ALL ROAD SL CARBON," has arrived.
This is the latest model in the popular Allroad series.
With carbon rims, it is even lighter, and the rim height has increased to 42mm, allowing for higher speeds.
MAVIC ALLROAD SL CARBON Front/Rear Set
Price: 220,000 yen (tax included)
Weight: 1,550g (manufacturer's specification)
Rim height: 42mm
The weight is approximately 100g lighter compared to the ALLROAD SL, which has aluminum rims and weighs 1,655g (manufacturer's specification).
The rim height of the SL is about 22mm, while the SL CARBON is 42mm, nearly double, yet with a reduction in weight.
While you can refer to the manufacturer's website for detailed wheel specifications, what I want to convey this time is about the compatible tire width. This is the main topic!

The ALL ROAD SL CARBON has an inner rim width of 25mm and can accommodate a wide range of tires from 30 to 64mm.
In fact, in recent events and race scenes in the gravel road bike community, the combination of "deep rims + wide tires" is gradually increasing.
This style, focusing on speed and comfort on and off-road, is a testament to the evolution of gravel road bikes!
For example, bikes like those shown in these Instagram posts.

The authentic gravel scene is seeing increasingly wider tires year by year, evolving to make riding on rougher roads easier.
Furthermore, in race scenes, people are starting to use deep rims to ride faster.
Even with wide tires, speed cannot be sacrificed!
The ALL ROAD SL CARBON is a perfect fit for this "deep rim + wide tire" style.
The maximum compatible tire width for this wheel, "64mm," is roughly the width of a 29x2.5 inch tire.
Looking at the tire alone, it's almost a mountain bike tire.
The question then becomes: are there gravel frames that can accommodate such wide tires?
Judging from the SNS photos above, it seems many people are currently enjoying riding with tires that just barely fit the clearance.
If this style becomes more popular, dedicated frames will likely emerge.
By the way, it can be installed on the Kona Sutra LTD, which has already pushed the boundaries of its category, without any issues. Tire clearance up to 29x2.5 has been confirmed.
We also have frame sets in stock, so if you're building a bike from scratch, please consider the ALL ROAD SL CARBON!

Returning to the topic, let's look at the features of the MAVIC ALLROAD SL CARBON.
The hub is Mavic's Instant Drive 360, which is easy to maintain yourself.
The freehub body can also be swapped to various types, allowing compatibility with Shimano, Campagnolo, and SRAM components.
Additionally, the hub standards can be adapted to your bike by changing adapters for thru-axle or QR.

The spokes are straight-pull type.
These are aero-shaped bladed spokes, rarely seen in traditional hand-built wheels.

Many people are sure to fall in love with its visual impact from the side.

The ALLROAD SL CARBON uses generic nipples, not proprietary ones.
Therefore, unlike the ALL ROAD SL aluminum wheels which don't require rim tape, you'll need to install rim tape just like with typical hand-built wheels.
However, for those who love customization, this aspect is actually a benefit: you can replace parts other than the rim later on!
You can use it as a complete wheel first, and then later upgrade it to a dynamo hub or custom build with silver spokes.

By the way, it's a hookless rim.

The front and rear wheelset comes with tubeless valves, so it can be assembled tubeless right away.
It also includes a tire lever/nipple wrench and Mavic stickers.
