Customizing the drivetrain of a Surly Bridgeclub to "make it run better."

Recently, our staff member Takenoshita went for a ride along the riverbed on his Surly Bridgeclub.

What he realized then was, "Wouldn't it be much more fun if the Bridgeclub could ride even better!?"

So, we immediately started customizing the drivetrain and wheels!

After completion, I took it for a test ride right away, and it rode so well that I couldn't help but grin, thinking, "Wow, what a difference!"

This time, we customized the front and rear tires.

Since the rims were already tubeless-ready, we used the original wheels without changing them.

The tires that came with the complete bike were WTB TRAIL BOSS.

These are MTB tires designed for trails, with large knobs and a bit of weight.

Also, they were wired-on type, meaning they had wires inside the tire, which made them inherently heavier.

To lighten the wheels, we replaced them with new Teravail Sparwood (lightweight type) in 27.5x2.1 size and converted them to tubeless.

As a result, the entire wheel set was lightened by approximately 1kg, making it a light and nimble bike that starts easily and rides smoothly.
This weight reduction in the wheels really makes a difference!

The ride improved, but now I'm getting greedy and "want to make it even better."

Next up are the "wheels" and "gear ratio." It still has potential for improvement!
