Don't choose cycling shoes based on the bike genre, but on their intended use!

Clipless shoes are recommended for long-distance cycling, even when you're not racing.
This is because they allow for more efficient pedaling, which reduces fatigue and alleviates body pain.
For those new to clipless pedals, a common concern is falling over when stopped. Everyone probably experiences this at least once. When stopping, you might accidentally forget that your shoes are attached to the pedals and can't quickly unclip your feet, causing you to fall. This is a matter of getting used to them, and you'll quickly stop falling, so there's no need to worry.
Clipless shoes come in three types: road, gravel, and urban. While the choice is often explained by the type of bicycle, I believe it should be considered based on the intended use for an enjoyable cycling experience.
・For long-distance cycling that also involves trains or ferries → Gravel type, which is easy to walk in, is recommended.

・For serious cycling with fewer breaks → Road type, which facilitates pedaling, is recommended.

・For urban riding mainly involving cafes and shopping → Urban type, which looks like sneakers and is easy to walk in, is recommended.
Recently, it has become common to pair gravel-type shoes with road bikes. This is mainly due to the ability to walk near scenic spots during rides and the ease of matching them with casual wear. If you're unsure which shoes to choose, picking a gravel type is generally a safe bet.
Now, let's talk in detail about each type of clipless shoe.
1: Road Type
2: Gravel Type
3: Urban Type
【Road Bike Type】

Road bike type clipless shoes have stiff soles and use large cleats, making them efficient at transmitting power to the pedals. They are suitable for hill climbing, racing, and long-distance cycling.

I actually compared them during a hill climb, and the road bike type felt overwhelmingly easier to pedal, giving a sensation of the bike moving forward more effectively.
The shoes themselves are lightweight; GIRO road shoes are about 80g lighter than gravel types.
・GIRO EMPIRE VR90 345g
Although it's only a difference of about 80g, it makes a significant difference in fatigue during long rides. Lightweight shoes make your feet spin smoothly, which is great for long-distance cycling. Their breathability makes them cool and comfortable in summer, but in winter, your toes can get freezing cold, so shoe covers are essential.

The heel part of the GIRO EMPIRE ACC can be replaced if it wears out.
For road bike type shoes, the reliable Shimano PD-R8000 SPD-SL pedal is recommended. If cared for, these pedals can last 10 years.

【Gravel Type】

Gravel type shoes are easy to walk in because the small cleat hardware doesn't directly contact the ground, and they are designed for easy attachment and detachment from clipless pedals. Compared to road bike types, the cleats wear out less, making them a more economical choice.

If you plan to stop at cafes during your ride, sightsee on foot, or use trains and ferries for cycling, these shoes are recommended. For example, on an overnight cycling trip, you won't need separate sneakers for walking when you get off your bike for sightseeing in the evening.
What is a cleat?
It's the metal piece attached to the bottom of clipless shoes.

For gravel type shoes, the reliable Shimano PD-M9100 SPD pedal is recommended. These pedals, if cared for, can also last 10 years.

【Urban Type】

This type has a softer sole, making it even easier to walk in than the gravel type. With a casual, sneaker-like appearance, it blends seamlessly with everyday clothes.
RUMBLE VR features a Vibram sole, offering comfortable walking akin to hiking shoes. This Vibram sole is made from recycled materials, making it an eco-friendly shoe.
With their understated design and ease of walking, many people actually use them for bicycle commuting.
For these shoes, the affordable Shimano PD-M520 pedal is recommended.

Finally, let's talk about shoe sizing.
GIRO shoes are slightly narrower than Asian-fit brands like Shimano. If you're unsure about the size, I recommend going up one size. Please also refer to the size charts below. Quoc shoes are Asian-fit, so your exact size should be correct.

If GIRO shoes don't fit, you can exchange them within 60 days of purchase.
Please register online within one week. You can register using the warranty card included.
