Nissen outer and inner cables are flexible, durable, and have low friction.

With the widespread adoption of Di2, wireless shifting, and hydraulic disc brakes, the presence of cables is diminishing, but niche chromoly bikes like Surly and Panasonic continue to be popular.

Simply replacing the cables on a complete bike with Nissen cables will dramatically lighten the pull.

Some people seem to be tired of keeping up with the evolution of hydraulics and wireless systems, and deliberately choose cable-actuated systems. I am more of the latter.
