Recent trends in portable pumps
Did you know that bicycle portable pumps have been evolving recently?
Over the past few years, the environment around bicycle wheels has changed significantly with the popularization of disc brakes and tubeless tires.
For example, tires have become wider than before, with typical road bike tires going from around 23c to 28c or even larger.

Also, the required air pressure is lower, with 28c tires needing a maximum of about 70psi, which is about half of what clincher tires needed.
As a result, portable bicycle pumps have also undergone changes.
Previously, high-pressure compatible pumps were the mainstream, but with tires becoming wider and requiring lower pressure, the need for high-pressure compatibility has decreased. Instead, there's a demand for high-volume pumps that can deliver more air per stroke.
With a higher output volume, the number of pump strokes is reduced, making the task easier.
In addition, some pumps can deliver compressed air to seat tubeless tire beads.
